Our names are Tim & Beverly Thompson, we were born and raised in Miami, Florida. After vacationing several times to the Georgia and North Carolina mountains, we decided we wanted to relocate and raise our family in a more rural area away from the big city of Miami. The big question, how do we give up our great paying jobs to do this. After all, we spent year saving our money, working overtime and working our way 'up the ladder' at the companies that we worked for. After much thought and prayer we felt that we should relocate to the North Carolina mountains. We realized that many of the homes we vacationed in were lacking something, whether it be firewood, seclusion, hot tub, campfire ring, creeks, trails, etc. So we decided to try and place everything at one location. Giving guests the ideal spot to get away from it all, yet close enough to town for those who wanted to try the local restaurants, shop, golf, sight see, etc. Yes, the last few years have been a struggle and have definitely set us back in our future goals/dreams with the economy being what it has been, but we have faith that our dream, goals and hard work will prevail, and as we trust God, we are determined not to give up on our dream. After searching eight years for the perfect piece of property to build our dream resort, we finally came upon a unique fifty-four acre tract of land. We fell in love with the rushing trout stream, meandering creek, abundant wildlife, tranquility, privacy, wooded views and our very own waterfalls. Realizing that many others, like ourselves, would enjoy vacationing on their own piece of secluded mountain paradise, we embarked on our dream with the construction of the first three cedar log cabins. This didn't come easy, we had to have roads put in, a bridge, and make dozens of trips from Florida to North Carolina to oversee the work and make sure everything was being done right and to our specifications. With success with the first three cabins and realizing that many others like ourselves loved our location and property we decided to expand, adding a fourth cabin, the first cabin to overlook the creek. We were finally able to become permanent North Carolina residents and purchased a home in the nearby area of Fleetwood. As guests continue to enjoy the cabins and property and returned year after year, over the next several years we added four additional cabins, one of which was Bear Creek which overlooks the creek, as the creek settings seems to be very popular (featured in this listing ad). We were also able to purchase an additional 24 acres of land which joined our original 54 acres, giving us now a total of 78 acres for our guests to explore. We hope that you will come and stay with us and share in our story, make memories of your own, and help us to maintain our dream.
Quiet Family Escape
Mountain Laurel was a nice cabin home located about half way between Wilkesboro and Boone, and near the Blue Ridge Parkway as well. The cabin had all of the necessities for our weekend getaway. The hot tub was amazing! The hiking on the private trail along the stream was beautiful and we just love the waterfall
